Frequently Asked Questions

What does HPPA stand for?

HPPA stands for Hawley Place Parents Association

What does the HPPA do?

The HPPA is a committee of parents and staff that raise funds for the school.  The funds then pay for projects or items that benefit the children, but are considered ‘nice to have’ rather than necessities.

How regularly are HPPA meetings held?

Meetings are generally held on a monthly basis during term time.  However, if we are planning one of our larger events, we may also hold interim sub-committee meetings in the run up to the event.

Is the HPPA part of the school or completely independent?

We work very closely with the school and everything we do is agreed with and supported by the school.

What are funds raised for?

The Committee agrees on an annual basis what projects or items will be funded in that particular year.  Teachers often put a wish list together that is then reviewed by the Committee and a decision is taken on which items will be funded in a particular year.  We also fund a Christmas pantomime for KS1 children, a Christmas disco for KS2 children, film nights for the senior girls and a leaver’s event for year 6 children.

What items have the HPPA funded in the past?

There is a real mix of projects and items funded by the HPPA in past years.  They range from staging, the Millennium garden project, HMS Hawley in the grounds of the Nursery to smaller items such as CD players in classrooms to overhead projectors.

How do I join the HPPA?

The HPPA hold an Annual General Meeting each October and members are voted onto the Committee.  Having said that we would welcome new members at any time of the year or even the offer of help at any of our events will always be gratefully received.

Can I help out without making a regular commitment?

Absolutely, we fully appreciate that everyone’s circumstances are different and it can be difficult to commit to regular attendance at Committee meetings.  We therefore have a list of ‘event helpers’ who help out at events as and when they are able to do so.

How many members does the HPPA have?

It does vary each year, existing members leave as children move on from the school and new members join as children join Hawley Place.  We can never have enough members, there is always something to work on.

Who are the members?

The HPPA is made up of both parents and staff and we work together to raise funds for jointly agreed projects.

When is the Uniform Sale?

The uniform sale is run on a monthly basis during term time.  There is a separate section on our web site about the uniform sale and how it works.

What events does the HPPA run?

Events may change each year, but in 2008 we ran the following events:
In February and October we held Film Nights for Senior girls
In March we held the Easter Fayre
June is a busy month for the HPPA.  We run Summer parties for the children in the marquee set up on site for the Summer Ball.  The Summer Ball is our biggest fund raiser each year, parents from the whole school come along to enjoy an evening of good food, wine and music and we take the opportunity to say goodbye to our Year 11 girls as their time at Hawley Place draws to a close and they embark on the next stage of their education.
In July we hold a Year 6 leavers event.
Christmas Extravaganza: combines our Christmas fayre with a fantastic firework display

In between our main events we run regular fun raisers, such as, raffles, Mothers Day trays and the second hand uniform sale.

How can I get in touch with the HPPA?

We issue a newsletter which gives the names of class representatives, you can make contact with any member.  Alternatively we have an HPPA contact form, please feel free to contact us using this facility.

I would like to give the HPPA some feedback, how do I do that?

Please use the contact form as above, adding your comments.

We welcome all feedback, positive or negative so thank you for taking the time to pass it on to us.

I have got an idea for a fund raiser, how do I share it with the HPPA?

We would love to hear of any new ideas to help us raise funds.  Either email us using the account details above or call the office and ask them to pass a message on to us and we will get in touch with you
